According to a\u00a0tentative schedule finalised by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, President\u00a0Droupadi\u00a0Murmu\u00a0will address a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on January 28, marking the start of the first Parliament session of the year.\u00a0<\/p>
Kiren Rijiju, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, in a post on X (formally twitter), wrote, “On the recommendation of the Govt of India, Hon\u2019ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu ji has approved the summoning of both the Houses of Parliament for the Budget Session 2026. The Session will commence on 28 January 2026 and continue till 2 April 2026. The first phase concludes on 13 February 2026, with Parliament reassembling on 9 March 2026, a vital step towards meaningful debate and people-centric governance.”<\/p>
Parliament will not sit on\u00a0January 29\u00a0due to the\u00a0Beating Retreat ceremony, while both Houses are scheduled to meet on\u00a0January 30, when the\u00a0Economic Survey\u00a0is expected to be tabled.\u00a0<\/p>
The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will not meet on\u00a0January 31, ahead of the presentation of the\u00a0Union Budget on February 1.\u00a0<\/p>
After deliberations on the\u00a0Motion of Thanks\u00a0to the President\u2019s address and discussions on the Budget, Parliament is expected to adjourn for a\u00a0near month-long recess on February 13. The session will reconvene on\u00a0March 9\u00a0and is likely to conclude on\u00a0April 2.\u00a0<\/p>
Officials noted that Parliament typically adjourns on a Friday, but the session may end a day earlier due to\u00a0Good Friday on April 3\u00a0and the\u00a0subsequent\u00a0weekend.\u00a0<\/p>
The recess during the Budget session allows\u00a0department-related standing committees\u00a0to examine the\u00a0demands for grants\u00a0of various Union ministries and departments.\u00a0<\/p>
