US President Donald Trump said Cuba is \u201cgoing to fall pretty soon\u201d and suggested he may send Secretary of State Marco Rubio to the island \u2014 remarks that hint Washington\u2019s ambitions could extend beyond the current conflict with Iran. \u00a0<\/p>

We\u2019ve got plenty of time, but Cuba\u2019s ready.\u201d \u00a0<\/p> Cuba has been under US sanctions for more than six decades. The communist government, currently led by President Miguel D\u00edaz\u2011Canel, has faced growing domestic pressure in recent years. In 2021, the island witnessed its largest protests in decades as thousands took to the streets over economic hardship, shortages and political grievances. \u00a0<\/p> Trump\u2019s remarks about Cuba came during a wide-ranging interview in which he also discussed the ongoing war with Iran and praised US military performance. \u00a0<\/p> \u201cWe\u2019re doing very well militarily \u2014 better than anybody could have even dreamed,\u201d he said, rating the performance a \u201c12 or 15 out of 10.\u201d \u00a0<\/p> Commenting on Iranian attacks on Gulf Arab states, Trump said Tehran \u201cmade a terrible mistake when they attacked them\u201d and described the affected countries as \u201cdoing unbelievable.\u201d \u00a0<\/p> When asked about Iran\u2019s leadership after the conflict, Trump suggested the outcome could mirror developments in Venezuela. \u00a0<\/p> \u201cIt is going to work like it did in Venezuela,\u201d he said, adding that whoever comes to power in Tehran would need to \u201ctreat the United States and Israel well.\u201d \u00a0<\/p> Trump also downplayed concerns about rising fuel prices triggered by disruptions to Gulf energy supplies and risks to the Strait of Hormuz. \u00a0<\/p> \u201cThat\u2019s alright, it\u2019ll be short term.
