Beijing routinely objects to Indian leaders visiting the region and has repeatedly issued \u201cstandardised\u201d Chinese names for locations there.\u00a0<\/p> <p>In the interview, Gao reiterated Beijing\u2019s long-held position that China \u201cnever accepted\u201d the McMahon Line, claiming the territory had historically belonged to Tibet and China.\u00a0<\/p> <p>He described Arunachal Pradesh as \u201coccupied Chinese territory\u201d and insisted India should eventually negotiate a \u201cmutually acceptable solution\u201d on the boundary dispute.\u00a0<\/p> <p>India has consistently and categorically rejected such claims, maintaining that Arunachal Pradesh \u201cwas, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India.\u201d New Delhi has also repeatedly dismissed China\u2019s renaming exercises as \u201cinventive attempts\u201d that do not alter reality on the ground.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p> <p><strong>Comparing India and China\u00a0<\/strong><\/p> <p>In another notable segment of the interview, Gao contrasted India\u2019s economic and technological progress with China\u2019s rise, arguing that the gap between the two nations had widened dramatically since 1978.\u00a0<\/p> <p>He claimed China was now \u201cminimum 20 years, if not 30 years\u201d ahead of India in industrial capability, scientific innovation, and military production.\u00a0<\/p> <p>\u201cChina makes all the military weapons by itself. India can never make all the military weapons\u2026 by itself,\u201d he said, adding that India would lose significantly if it failed to engage with China economically.\u00a0<\/p> <p>The remarks are expected to attract attention in India not only because of their aggressive territorial undertones but also because they come at a time when both countries are publicly emphasising dialogue and stabilisation after years of hostility along the Himalayan frontier.\u00a0<\/p> <p>The timing of Gao\u2019s comments is significant because they come amid tentative signs of improvement in India-China relations.
