handle\u00a0<i>@incindia<\/i>\u00a0has roughly 13.2 million followers<\/li> <li>AAP\u2019s\u00a0<i>@aamaadmiparty<\/i>\u00a0has around 1.9 million followers<\/li> <li>Cockroach Janata Party\u2019s\u00a0<i>@cockroachjantaparty<\/i>\u00a0has crossed 6 million followers<\/li> <\/ul> <p>The page has achieved the numbers despite having only around 52\u00a0posts.<\/p> <p>Its bio describes the platform as \u201cA political front of the youth, by the youth, for the youth.\u201d<\/p> <p><b>How the controversy began<\/b><\/p> <p>The movement traces its origin to remarks made by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant during a Supreme Court hearing on May 15.<\/p> <p>During the hearing, the CJI said there are \u201cyoungsters like cockroaches\u201d who enter professions without proper qualifications and employment opportunities.<\/p> <p>The remark triggered strong reactions online, with many users linking it to frustrations around unemployment and the pressure on young Indians.<\/p> <p>A day later, CJI Surya Kant clarified that his comments were aimed at individuals using fake and bogus degrees and not at the country\u2019s youth in general.<\/p> <p>He also said Indian youth are the \u201cpillars of a developed India.\u201d<\/p> <p><b>From satire to viral political movement<\/b><\/p> <p>Soon after the controversy, Abhijeet Dipke, a 30 year old Indian public relations student at Boston University, announced what he called \u201ca new platform for all the cockroaches.\u201d<\/p> <p>\u00a0<\/p> <p>\u00a0<\/p> <p>\u00a0<\/p> <p>\u00a0<\/p> <p>The movement quickly adopted slogans like \u201cMain Bhi Cockroach\u201d and branded itself as \u201cSecular, Socialist, Democratic, Lazy.\u201d<\/p> <p>What initially looked like a meme page rapidly evolved into a full-scale online political campaign.<\/p> <p>Within days, the group launched:<\/p> <ul data-end=\"2416\" data-start=\"2336\"> <li>A website<\/li> <li>A party anthem<\/li> <li>Social media campaigns<\/li> <li>Online membership drives<\/li> <\/ul> <p>Earlier reports said the movement had already attracted tens of thousands of followers on X and nearly 1 lakh registrations from supporters online.<\/p> <p><b>Why young users are relating to it<\/b><\/p> <p>Dipke said the idea came \u201cimpromptu\u201d after seeing the controversy around the CJI\u2019s remarks.<\/p> <p>According to him, many young Indians feel disconnected from mainstream politics and want a language of politics that reflects \u201ctheir humour, frustrations and internet culture.\u201d<\/p> <p>The party has also tried to position itself around youth-focused issues.<\/p> <p>On the NEET controversy, the group posted that the Education Minister should resign and demanded accountability over exam paper leaks.<\/p> <p>In another post, it supported students protesting CBSE rechecking fees and called for reforms in the education system.<\/p> <p><b>The party\u2019s unusual membership criteria<\/b><\/p> <p>The Cockroach Janata Party\u2019s online membership form lists humorous eligibility criteria, including:<\/p> <ul data-end=\"3455\" data-start=\"3351\"> <li>Being unemployed<\/li> <li>Being lazy<\/li> <li>Being chronically online<\/li> <li>Having the \u201cability to rant professionally\u201d<\/li> <\/ul> <p>Despite the satirical tone, the movement has managed to attract attention from mainstream politicians as well.<\/p> <p>Trinamool Congress MPs Mahua Moitra and Kirti Azad are among the notable public figures who have associated themselves with the platform online.<\/p> <p>Welcoming Mahua Moitra, the party wrote that \u201cthose who rig elections and spread communal hatred are the real anti nationals.\u201d<\/p> <p>While welcoming Kirti Azad, the party joked that \u201cwinning the 1983 World Cup is a good enough qualification.\u201d<\/p> <p><b>More than a meme?<\/b><\/p> <p>While many still see the Cockroach Janata Party as internet satire, its social media
