Google Conversions

Google updated a number of its Google Ads help documentation to say “Primary conversion actions not used for optimization may be used to enhance predictions.” It is not clear if this is a change in what is actually happening or just a clarification to the Google help documentation about what was happening already.

Dario Zannoni posted about these changes on LinkedIn and wrote, “Google recently updated its documentation on Conversion Goals, explicitly stating that primary conversion actions not used for optimization may still be used to enhance predictions.” “Recent updates to Google Ads help pages state that non biddable, shallow conversions can be used to “enhance predictions” and “help the campaign ramp”,” he added.

Here is his screenshot of these pages that were changed:

As Dario said, it is unclear if this is just a clarification of how things have worked with conversion actions in the Google help documents or if this change represents a change to how the Google Ads conversion actions actually technically work now.

He did add, “Collecting data from additional meaningful events, in the form of conversion actions, can help Smart Bidding performance even when those events are not the specific goal the account or campaign is optimizing for.”
