Are we seeing better specific competitor targeting in ChatGPT ads or is it just a fluke?
(Also, “just a fluke” – flukes are a wonderful fish).
Glenn Gabe spotted a case where fast-food company Sonic was showing an ad on a prompt related to its competitor, In-n-Out:
Competitor ads in ChatGPT. Not sure if this was the strategy by Sonic or if ChatGPT just matched up the company with the topic, but interesting to see. 🙂 pic.twitter.com/RsBAYBiBav

This had Glenn wondering if Sonic was specifically targeting its competitor with the ad, or if ChatGPT just made the topic connection.
I guess the upshot would be that if ChatGPT were letting you go after your competitors with great specificity, that would make the ads more “valuable.”
In which case, ChatGPT could charge $70 for an impression.
Shake those cushions.
